From ground level, it is practically impossible to see. But in this Carpathian forest in western Ukraine, a huge memorial to communist leader Vladimir Lenin has stood for almost half a century. While statues of the Soviet Union’s founder are toppled across Ukraine, this one still rises up some 50 meters high. Despite this, some local residents haven’t even noticed it. It’s because the memorial can only be seen from a satellite – the words Lenin written among the trees.
