Romania has announced that it is moving away from Russian gas. The country is working to rely on its own gas resources in an attempt to completely free itself of natural gas imports from Russia. Starting in April, Romania hopes import no gas from Russia for several months.
Meanwhile, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria are reportedly close to signing a memorandum on the construction of a new pipeline called Eastring in a move designed to diversify Europe’s gas supply infrastructure. Slovak gas pipeline operator Eustream said the pipeline would help Europe wean itself off its dependence on Russian gas.
