New Skyscraper 130 Fenchurch Street is coming to the City

The new building is scheduled to go up on Fenchurch Street in 2030

The City skyline is going to be changing pretty dramatically over the next five years as a number of new skyscrapers are being constructed – there’s the 284-metre high 55 Bishopsgate, the 74-storey 1 Undershaft (the joint tallest building in the UK), and now 130 Fenchurch Street is also on the way.

Fountain House, which currently stands at 130 Fenchurch Street, was built between 1954 – 1958, making it one of the first tall buildings to be constructed in the City after the Blitz, and the first to use the podium and tower design. But it won’t be with us for much longer as there are plans to demolish the block and build a new 130 Fenchurch Street in its place.

Aviva Investors and developers CO-RE are behind the new building, which will be 31 storeys tall and feature a staggered design. The majority of the tower will be home to office space but there will be 600 sqm of public space, including food, drink and retail outlets, on the ground floor; a pedestrian connection between Cullum Street and Fen Court; a cultural offering on level 17; and a green terrace with views over the City on level 20.

The second round of public consultations have just come to an end so a planning application will be submitted to the City of London Corporation this spring. If they get approved, the demolition of Fountain House will begin in 2026 and 130 Fenchurch Street will be completed in 2030.
