Even more hand-pulled noodles have landed in London
Fans of biang biang noodles will want to get this south London spot on their lists. Mulan Noodle, now open on Acre Lane between Brixton and Clapham, specialises in hand-pulled noodles from the Xi’an region of China, which are made fresh in-house every day.
Both the wider, flatter biang biang noodles and the thicker, chewier la tiao zi noodles are on the menu, and come bathed in sesame, vinegar and chilli oil plus toppings like minced beef, tomato and egg, braised beef, mixed veggies, seasonal greens, and soy eggs. These are joined by dry mixed noodles, like cumin beef and big plate chicken, and noodle soups.
Noodles may be the main event but you won’t want to skip the rest of the menu, which includes dishes like:
- black fungus salad
- smashed cucumbers with garlic soy vinegar dressing
- pan-fried, steamed and boiled dumplings
- Xinjiang pepper chicken
- Sichuan ice jelly
- deep fried milk
- mango pomelo sago
Chinese teas feature across the cocktail list, with jasmine tea in the Jade Margarita and oolong tea in the whisky sour-style Oolong Eclipse. If you go to Mulan on Friday and Saturday nights, you’ll also be treated to live music featuring traditional Chinese instruments.
