Yankees’ Aaron Judge says he’s fine after wince, gets DH day

TORONTO — Aaron Judge said he is alright after cameras caught him wincing during the seventh inning of Tuesday’s win over the Blue Jays.

The moment occurred after the right fielder ran down an Alejandro Kirk flyball near the corner for the second out of the inning. With Bo Bichette tagging from second base, Judge threw the ball in to Jazz Chisholm Jr. before the YES Network showed him grimacing and clutching his right hand in a fist.

“I make facial expressions all the time,” Judge told the Daily News when asked about the clip.

Judge made sure to note that he didn’t come out of the game as well.

“He’s OK. Not much,” Aaron Boone added when asked what happened. “Just probably a throw that didn’t feel great.”

Boone had Judge DH’ing in Wednesday’s series finale against Toronto, but the manager said that was part of a predetermined plan to get Judge off Rogers Centre’s turf and rest Giancarlo Stanton.

“He’s not DH’ing because of that,” Boone said, referring to the play on Tuesday night. The skipper called it a “one-off” moment.

Judge, who has played in every game this season, pointed out that he’s gotten plenty of DH days in Toronto in the past. Wednesday marked his 22nd time DH’ing this season.

“To get him those days, especially on the days we come to a place where it’s turf, where it’s a change of surface that you’re playing on and can be a little taxing, I think they matter,” Boone said.

Judge was hitting .333/.457/.840 with 11 home runs and 21 RBI as a DH this season prior to Wednesday.
