The Malaysian family-style restaurant is putting down roots
Husband-and-wife team Hakeem and Zura started cooking together when grounded in Morocco during the pandemic, and on returning to London, it evolved into the Duda Diner concept, their love letter to Malaysia. After popping up with it all over town, the pair have now found a permanent home for Duda Diner in Nunhead, taking over cafe Goodcup on Thursday to Saturday evenings.
The food at Duda Diner is inspired by family recipes, food from roadside stalls in Malaysia and the couple’s twists on classic dishes, with the menu including the likes of:
- lamb satay skewers
- mee goreng mamak
- fish head curry
- char kuey teow
- cockles rendang
- Duda burger with dry-aged beef and Sarawak peppercorn sauce
Speaking about the opening, Zura said: “Our food is rooted in memory and feelings. Those moments when a dish makes you pause, smile and reach for more. Duda isn’t just food; it’s a rhythm, a hum of joy in the kitchen and at the table. It’s like we’re entertaining you in our own home and we want Nunhead to feel that spirit every time they dine with us.”
