Lara Boglione of Petersham Nurseries is opening the place with husband Giovanni Mazzei
Lara Boglione made her name leading Petersham Nurseries and now she’s opening a different family business, this time with her husband Giovanni Mazzei (of wine dynasty Marchesi Mazzei). Trogolo, coming to Notting Hill this November, will be a Florentine trattoria and bar where people can drop in for aperitivos and cheese, a bowl of pasta and a glass of wine, or slow and generous dinners.
The restaurant, named after the Italian word for ‘trough’, will be spread across two floors, plus an outdoor courtyard, and feature a mix of two-tops and communal tables, and bar serving cocktails and crostini at the back of the main space. The menu will change seasonally and feature ingredients from producers across the UK and Italy, with dishes like:
- fritto of sage leaves and anchovies
- pecorino with pears
- tagliolini with white truffle or cockerel ragu
- chicken roasted in butter
- Tuscan bone-in pork loin with peperoncino
- puntarelle with anchovies
- apple cake with vanilla gelato
- cantucci biscuit with vinsanto wine
Given Giovanni comes from a winemaking family, the wine list will be impressive – 350 bottles with a strong selection of Tuscan and Italian varieties, classics and natural wines.
Speaking about the opening, Lara said: “The Tuscan spirit is warm and effusive. We’re bringing this hearty sense of hospitality to Trogolo, a place that captures the feel of Florence, where the chatter of guests at noisy trattorias and wine bars spills out onto the streets and into the night. We can’t wait to open the doors, pour our favourite wines and share the simple dishes we love with friends, neighbours and new faces alike.”
