Three Rounds Tavern has opened in Spitalfields

Smoked and braised meats are on the menu

It’s all change on Hanbury Street as the site where Sichuan Folk used to be has become new Chinese spot Three Rounds Tavern. The concept centres around smoked and braised meats, like pork knuckle, beef, chicken and pig’s trotter (with kelp knots, tofu, lotus root and enoki mushroom for the veggies) which are slow-braised in spiced soy, gently smoked and then served chilled like charcuterie.

There are more cold plates on the rest of the menu, alongside dishes like:

  • black fungus with pickled chilli
  • salt & pepper squid
  • deep-fried eggplant sandwiches
  • steamed savoury egg custard
  • sea bass with spicy mixed pepper
  • braised pork with pickled veg and glass noodles
  • pickled cabbage fish fillet in golden broth
  • braised mushroom with pak choi
  • shrimp three delicacy dumplings
  • mapo tofu

Given it’s a tavern, the food at Three Rounds is designed to pair well with drinks – there’s a decent baijiu selection on the list, plus soju, Chinese craft beer and plum wine, with teas for those off the sauce.

You’re not short of Chinese food around Spitalfields way but with the smoked and braised meats,Three Rounds is doing something a little bit different.
