Is it going to snow in London in 2026? Here are the latest updates

2026 could be off to a cold start

We’ve had a few really cold days and a fair bit of rain over November thanks to Storm Claudia but that’s been about the extent of the bad weather so far this winter. As the Met Office, the UK’s national weather service, writes: “We are more likely to see snow between January and March than in December”, so it tracks that we’re yet to see significant snow.

Will it snow in London in 2026?

The Met Office currently has an yellow weather warning for snow and ice (meaning some travel disruption expected) for a large part of England, including London, until midday on Fri 2nd January. Snow has already been seen falling in places like Croydon and Finchley early on Friday morning.

Cold temperatures are expected to last across the weekend and into next week as cold Arctic air is blowing across the UK. The BBC Weather forecast is predicting that there could be some light snow on Weds 7th January and more sleet on Saturday 10th January, so if it does come, it won’t last for very long.

In terms of a long range forecast, the Met Office says, “from next weekend, the outlook becomes more uncertain. Most likely is that conditions will be less cold than recently, but there still remains potential for further spells of snow, especially in northern and central areas.” That means we’re unlikely to see more snow in the capital but it’s all very changeable so we’ll just have to wait and see.
