
The Upper East Side is getting a sweet addition. Portland’s cult-favorite ice cream shop Salt & Straw will open at Naftali Group’s new luxury condo tower at 255 East 77th Street. Anticipated to open in spring 2027, the shop will occupy 1,650 square feet on the ground floor of the 500-foot-tall residential building. The beloved ice cream brand opened its first NYC location on the Upper West Side in September 2024, debuting signature Big Apple–inspired flavors, followed by a second spot in the West Village shortly after.

Founded by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek in 2011, Salt & Straw has grown from a single pushcart into a nationally beloved brand with scoop shops in Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, Arizona, and now New York. The company also ships its flavors nationwide.
The Upper East Side outpost will offer perfected classics like Double Fold Vanilla and Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, as well as unique creations such as Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper. Dairy-free and gluten-free options will also be available.
“At Salt & Straw, our dream began with a desire to create a community space where neighbors ran into one another, friends and family gathered, and everyone felt welcomed,” Kim Malek said. “When we opened our first shops in New York last year, the community embraced us in such a special way, and we’re incredibly excited to bring our unforgettable ice creams to the Upper East Side and connect with the neighbors here.”
She added: “We’re looking forward to deepening those connections and continuing to share our story with even more ice cream lovers across the city.”


The shop will be part of Naftali Group’s new condominium tower, rising 500 feet at the corner of Second Avenue and 77th Street. The building features exterior and residential interior design by the acclaimed Robert A.M. Stern Architects, with indoor and outdoor amenities designed by Yabu Pushelberg.
The building will offer 62 luxury residences ranging from two to seven bedrooms, including half-floor, full-floor, and penthouse layouts with sweeping views of Central Park. Its extensive indoor-outdoor amenities will span multiple floors and include a 75-foot swimming pool with skyline views, a recording studio, a private cinema, and a multi-sport simulator.

Additional amenities include a porte-cochere leading to a concealed automated parking system and an attended lobby with 24-hour concierge services, according to City Realty.
Construction is already well underway, with completion slated for late 2026. Sales launched in fall 2024, and nearly 85 percent of the residences have already been sold. Current availabilities start at $7,400,000 for a five-bedroom.
