Middle Eastern bakery Farha has come to Leyton

It’s run by husband-and-wife team Umar and Nargis

After they moved to Leytonstone and couldn’t find the quality coffee, pastries and breads they wanted in their new neighbourhood, Umar and Nargis decided to take matters into their own hands by opening Farha. The pair have transformed a disused garage space in Leyton into a Middle Eastern bakery and coffee house, featuring tables, upholstery, plates and cups made by local artisans, and bespoke tiles handmade in Morocco.

Farha is currently serving speciality coffee and freshly baked viennoiserie, both with a modern take on Middle Eastern flavours. As well as house espresso and pour over coffees, you can get special drinks like matcha, cardamom brown sugar lattes and orange blossom mochas. Farha’s pastry chef, who’s spent time at Morny, Toklas, Fortitude and Cedric Grolet, has created a menu of sweet and savoury bakes, including:

  • banana brûlée danish with banana caramel, sesame praline kadayif croustillant, tahini crème mousseline, banana brûlée and sesame brittle
  • chai & orange bun with house chai custard, orange & vanilla marmalade, and chai sugar
  • saffron pear danish with vanilla rice pudding, crushed pistachio
  • roasted aubergine danish with muhammara, pomegranate molasses, walnuts and parsley oil
  • za’atar torsade with whipped feta and sumac pickled onion

And there’s more to come as Umar and Nargis will be expanding the menu, adding full brunch and all-day lunch offerings soon.
