Imad Alarnab is taking Imad’s Syrian Kitchen east. A second site is due to open later this year on Blossom Street in Shoreditch, as part of the Norton Folgate development. It will be Imad’s third London venue, following the og Syrian Kitchen in Soho’s Kingly Court and Aram, the café and cultural space he opened at Somerset House last autumn.
Before London, Imad Alarnab used to run three restaurants in Damascus but was forced to flee Syria in 2015 after bombs destroyed his businesses and his home. Once Imad made it here, he worked any job that he could but he never stopped cooking. Starting with supper clubs showcasing his Syrian food, he soon began to build up support, including from Choose Love, allowing him to progress onto pop-ups and eventually his own restaurant, Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, which opened in Kingly Court in 2020.
There’s no word yet on whether the Shoreditch menu will differ from Soho’s, but hopefully we can expect more of what Imad does best: short sharp menus built around the touch points of Middle Eastern cuisine.
The restaurant joins a growing line-up at Norton Folgate that already includes Xi Home, Kolamba East and Osteria Angelina.
