Selin Kiazim to open Leydi in Farringdon

Leydi will be taking up residence inside the new Hyde London City hotel

The Hyde hotel group is opening its first UK outpost this September, taking over the historic Spiers & Pond building in Farringdon opposite the Old Bailey, and it’s tapped Selin Kiazim to create the menu for one of its restaurants inside. The 90-cover Leydi will be a celebration of Istanbul and the city’s eating culture, starting with Turkish breakfast dishes like böreks, caramelised tahini spirals, stuffed lavash rolls and menemen.

The Leydi lunch menu is influenced by lokantas, neighbourhood restaurants that cater to everyone, offering lahmacuns and pides alongside house-made döner with fresh baked lavash, fried dayboat seafood with green chilli & coriander ezme, and Islak burgers, spiced beef köfte buns soaked in garlic tomato sauce.

If lokantas are the vibe for lunch, meyhanes (tavernas known for their convivial atmosphere) provide the inspo for Leydi come evening, when you can expect the likes of:

  • baked hummus with pastirma
  • smoked aubergine with freshly fired Turkish bread
  • hand-chopped adana kebap
  • Welsh lamb kebap with dripping pide
  • chicken thigh shish with a fenugreek marinade
  • Turkish ice cream with pick & mix toppings
  • pistachio katmer
  • XL künefe

Kevin Patnode, twice named the best bartender in Turkey, has created the drinks list for Leydi, which includes raki; Turkish, Lebanese, Greek and other European wines; and spiced and smoked cocktails like the Lion Milk’s Spritz, made with raki, coriander seed, elderflower liqueur and sparkling wine.

We’ve been missing Oklava so we can’t wait – and imagine it’s the same for many of you – to get our hands on Selin’s food again.
