The team behind the Spurstowe Arms is taking over the Elderfield

Get ready Clapton locals

Buzzy beer garden? Check. Hyped kitchen resident? Check. Only near an Overground station? Check. Regular feature on meme accounts? Check. The Spurstowe Arms, halfway between London Fields and Dalston, might be the ultimate east London boozer, and now the team is expanding with a second pub, taking over the Elderfield in Clapton.

A makeover of the site (including a lick of paint and the addition of many candles) is planned for January but the pub will be opening at the end of November so as to not miss out on all the festive fun. The drinks offering is tight but varied – there’s pet nat, orange and light red bottles amongst the European wine list alongside classic cocktails, beers, ciders and softies.

The Elderfield does have a kitchen but in an effort to get open this side of Christmas, the team will just be serving cheese plates, featuring Corra Linn, Pevensey Blue, Baron Bigod, baguette and chutney, to go with the wines. Given that Dough Hands is the incredibly popular resident over at the Spurstowe, we’re very interested to see who gets drafted in for the Clapton kitchen.
