He’s relaunching his Jamie’s Italian chain in the UK
You saw our piece on Jamie Oliver getting back into the restaurant game in 2023, when he opened Jamie Oliver Catherine Street in Covent Garden, and now he’s prepping for another launch. The Catherine Street opening was a big move given that just four years prior, his Jamie’s Italian restaurant chain went into administration, resulting in the closure of 22 sites and 1000 job losses, while he made it out with a £5.2 million paycheck.
Though almost all of the UK sites shut in 2019, the Jamie’s Italian brand continued to trade overseas – we’ve seen them everywhere from Vienna to São Paulo to Dubai. Now he’s bringing it back to our shores, with a helping hand from Prezzo’s parent organisation Brava Hospitality Group, and opening a new flagship Jamie’s Italian in Leicester Square in 2026. Clearly he’s got the tourist market in his sights.
As well as promising a “renewed focus on fresh pasta”, the menu will feature a mix of new dishes and Jamie’s Italian classics, including cured meat planks, prawn linguine and Gennaro’s bolognese.
Speaking about the relaunch, Jamie Oliver said: ” As a chef, having the chance to return to the high street is incredibly important to me. In theory it’s not the easiest time to return but conversely, I think it’s the perfect time. I believe the mid-market needs excitement, surprise and delight and that’s exactly what I am planning on delivering.
“I think the public wants freshly made delicious food at a reasonable price with an award winning kids menu. Eating out is a treat but I believe it should offer value for money with higher welfare sourcing.
“I will drive the menus, make sure the sourcing is right, the staff training and ensure the look and feel of the restaurant is brought to life in the right way. All the effort, time, love and attention will be the same as before.”
